Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of 3D ultrasound?

Primarily, 3D ultrasound offers beautiful quality images of the baby.  Our ultrasound images far surpass traditional 2D images providing easy understanding and visualization.  3D ultrasound allows the expecting mother and guests to clearly visualize the baby and family traits.  Most importantly, 3D ultrasound can encourage maternal well-being through bonding with and the subsequent better care for the developing baby.  We hear all of the time, “Now, it seems so real!” and its often the father who gets the most from the visit.  The family really does come together!

What is included in your ultrasound sitting fee?

Everything!  6 color 3D ultrasound photographs, 6 black and white 3D ultrasound photographs, a DVD of the entire ultrasound session, a CD containing all 3D ultrasound images in JPEG format for emailing and printing, 5 x 7 picture frame matt for displaying one of the pictures, gender determination (if desired), an estimate of the fetal heart rate, a determination of the fetal position at the time of imaging, and other useful information.

When is the best time to come in for my ultrasound appointment?

While anytime is a great time for the visualization of your baby, gender determination is most accurate if made after twenty weeks.  24-34 weeks is the best time for 3D visualization of the baby.  Prior to 24 weeks the fat has not yet defined the baby and while 3D ultrasound images are obtainable, truly beautiful ultrasound images require fat deposits and fetal development.  While excitement abounds, our experience has led us to encourage mothers to wait for the appropriate time in order to get the most from her visit.  This is your time and the truth is that your patience will benefit the bonding experience and provide for significantly improved ultrasound image quality.

What should I wear to my ultrasound appointment?

We recommend that you wear two-piece outfits for ease and comfort.  Easy access to the baby makes for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.  A dress is definitely not recommended.

Can I bring friends and family to my ultrasound appointment?

Absolutely!  We are a mother centered and family friendly environment.  Our ultrasound imaging rooms have multiple video screens for easy client visualization of the baby and most locations provide toys and play-space for the siblings.

Can you tell the gender of the baby?

Yes!  Baby's First Peek prides itself on gender accuracy and on many occasions have corrected information from earlier 2D ultrasound visits.  Remember, this is your time and we will provide you with what you need from this visit.  Several looks will be provided until you yourself visualize and agree with the determination.

If you wish to keep the gender a secret, we will respect your wish.

Do you provide medical services or diagnostic ultrasound?

Baby's First Peek provides only a supplemental service, determining gender, fetal position, an estimate of the fetal heart rate, and other useful information.  Baby's First Peek will not provide any medical measurements to include the weight of the baby.  Any medical questions should be directed to the mother’s physician or midwife.

Do I need a note from my doctor?

Baby's First Peek requires that all ultrasound clients be under the active care of a physician or midwife.  Verification of prenatal care can be established through the direct provision of a note from your healthcare provider, a copy of recent diagnostic ultrasound pictures, or a copy of a recent diagnostic ultrasound report.  Baby's First Peek reserves the right to contact your provider and confirm prenatal services.

Do I need a full bladder?

While you should remain well hydrated, you do not need a full-bladder for our ultrasound services.

What type of payment is accepted?

We accept cash, MasterCard, and Visa.

How far in advance should 3D ultrasound appointments be made?

3D Ultrasound Appointments should be made as soon as possible!  Weekends and evenings are the most highly desired appointment times and do fill up quickly.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept any medical insurance.  This is a supplemental service that is not yet covered by most insurance.  Baby's First Peek does not wish to detract in any way from the diagnostic or medical services available through your medical provider.

Is Ultrasound Safe?

Ultrasound has been in routine use for over thirty-five years.  Extensive studies over 30 years have found that  ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby.  Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States.

In 3D/4D scanning, the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning.

3D and 4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves to look inside the body.  A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo, and generates an image.  3D/4D ultrasound is similar to a conventional scan in terms of exposure.  No detrimental effects from the responsible use of ultrasound have been definitively proven.  For more information on ultrasound please visit www.ob-ultrasound.net , a website by Dr. Joseph Woo for a complete history of the development and use of ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Also visit www.ob-ultrasound.net/studies.html for information regarding the most recent studies  on ultrasound.
